This morning I got off to what I thought was a rough start. It started by getting to the place where I was going to get ice and finding that I had left my keys at home. I went home on a tight schedule and grabbed the keys then went back to get the ice. I filled up the coolers then headed for my next appointment at the jail. I got to the jail to discover that I had left the keys in the door back while getting ice. I immediately was concerned about the building being unlocked so I called someone who I know that lives very close and he went and locked up and took my keys to his house. As I finished the call I put my phone on the seat then not thinking locked the door and closed it. Now I was locked out of the van. I went into my meeting then afterwards for some reason I could not think of Angie's number (because of always using speed dialer) to have her come and unlock it. I ended up getting a coat hanger and I got into the van. All this time I was thinking that I had another appointment in a little less than an hour. I wasn't sure why I headed for headquarters but I did. The timing of what lied ahead was incredible. When I pulled up I saw a female who I did not know using our window as a mirror. When I got out she started toward me and I asked if she was new in the area. She said that she was just from another area of Durham. She said that she knew of me because Donna had ministered to her and told her about me while she was in jail just last week. I minister that area also so I was really surprised that I never run across her as she worked the streets. She said that she was extremely hungry and thirsty so I invited her to step inside.
Sandy was a complete mess! She was extremely high on heroin. She started telling me her story. This lady was a pharmacist with CVS and had a degree in cosmetology. Everything fell apart for her one late night when she was getting off work. She went out to her vehicle and it would not start. She called her mother her was babysitting her baby and asked her to come and pick her up. Her mother told her that her and the baby were sleeping. Her mother told her to call another family member. Sandy begged her mom to come. Her mom got up and got the baby into the car seat then headed for Sandy's work never to arrive there. She was involved in an accident that killed her and the baby. Sandy started on synthetic heroin pills then went from there to shooting up heroin.
She cried and cried as she told me her story. She had two more kids which she also lost and has no idea where they are at. They are 12 and 18. She pleaded with me to help her. She said that she was tired of turning tricks, getting high and sleeping in the streets.
I explained to Sandy that I had another appointment that I had to get to then I would be back at 2:00. I explained to her the process that we were going to take which first would be going to the Emergency Room then they would give a referral to a detox center. Once that was completed I told her that I would get her into a solid Christian rehab program for one year. She was in total agreement to start the process. I explained to her that once I left the devil would immediately start filling her head with ideas of why she shouldn't get the help she needs.

As I pulled up to headquarters at 1:50 she was sitting near by. I got out and walked up to her with something for her to drink. I asked her if she was ready to go and she started making excuses. We talked for over a half hour. The devil was filling her head with lies and she was listening to him. I told her that the drugs and the streets were more important than her children that she said she wanted to get right then find them. She cried hard as the battle went on in her mind.
I told her that I had other people that I had to get to. She begged me to help her in two days. I asked her if she had any idea how many times I had heard that? I told her of the six prostitutes that I have known and talked to just like her that are no longer living (5 murdered and one overdosed). I told Sandy that the difference was that she still was breathing and could make the right decision. She remains out there tonight thinking that two days are going to make a difference. How deceived she is! I was with her long enough to really care for her and it was sickening to see her decline the help. I explained everything that had happened to me and the fact that the timing of her being at the building and me showing up when she was standing there. She wept again as I told her that the Lord loved her and was reaching out to her. I ask that you join me in praying that Sandy will make the right decision to get the help she so drastically needs!
