I must once again apologize for not being able to get all the awesome things that are going on in this ministry out to all of you. I again tell you that I am working on a better plan to get more efficient in this area. Please pray for leaders to come into this ministry! We need help and I know that the Lord knows that also. The harvest is so very ripe but the laborers are so very few!
The new headquarter is so awesome! It get extremely busy and I will give you a picture of that with what took place yesterday. Here is what my day looked like......
Up early and in the Word preparing for the day. Pray with Angie before she goes to work. Out the door at 9:00 heading for Court to support one of the inmates at the jail that I have been working with for over a year. Arrived there to find that I was 30 minutes early. I ended up ministering to four people that knew me from different situations on the streets. I ministered to them until court started. One was a mother who had asked me before to please go to the jail and tell her son that she loved him. I sat in court only to find that they were not going to make to it to who I was there for so at 10:45 I took off so that I could make it back to headquarters for an 11:00 meeting with a mother and son that is addicted and in need of rehabilitation. They do not show up because of some confusion which ended up being a blessing. I knew I was on the
At 11:15 a prostitute named Holy who I have known for several years comes in. Holly is in a different frame of mind that I have seen before. She has a backpack on and told me that she had, had a fight with her boyfriend and was now homeless. She said "do you have time to talk to me". I said "I sure do". She then said "I am 31 and have nothing other than my kids". Holly has three kids that are heading for disaster if they do not get some positive changes in their lives! Angie and I have had the kids with us at time and have taken them swimming and other fun things. Holly finally told me that she needed help. We started looking at different options of rehab. Holly has shot heroin into her arms for years. Her and her sister were out on the streets in their early teens in Philadelphia. Holly has not been shooting up lately because she started going to a methadone clinic. Her biggest fear in going to rehab is being "dope sick" coming off the methadone. I asked her if the sickness would be worth getting her life straight. We are supposed to get together today to discuss this further. I believe that if she isn't ready, she is getting very close to being sick and tired of being sick and tired! Derrick had also showed up while talking with Holly. He wanted something to drink and when I asked him for a verse he said that he did not have one. Cut him some slack and gave him a Bible and told him "no more of anything unless you come with a memorized verse".
12:30 - A meeting with some help! Praise the Lord for Alyssa! She is a new member of our team starting today! While we are meeting a prostitute named Carolyn comes in wanting something to drink and some candy. I told her that she needed a scripture and she immediately said "Jesus wept". (John 11:35) I let her off the hook with that one even though she did not know where it was at in the Bible. I then told her that she could not use that scripture again. I try my best to stay focused with who I am meeting with. At times I have to lock the door but with Alyssa I wanted her to also see how things roll down there. I met with her for around an hour and she has a heart for this kind of ministry!
While talking with Alyssa I notice a guy named Elijah standing in front of the window trying to get my attention. I signaled to him to wait. This goes on often that there are so many people wanting to talk that you are distracted from what is going on but that I am sure is just the way it is going to be in that area. After Alyssa and I finished I went outside to find 27 year old Elijah sitting on the steps. I told him to come in and as soon as he walked in a near nauseating odor filled the room. It smelled just like he had messed his pants days ago. I felt so sorry for him at that point and felt such compassion. He looked into my eyes and said "I know that you smell how bad I stink and I am sorry". I always try to think of how Jesus handled these type of situations. I know he continued to show love. This gets very detailed so I will do a separate post to let you know how awesome this turned out!
Check my text and messages to find another woman contacting me and asking for help to get off of drugs. By now it is around 2:45 and I am dealing with some things with Elijah that I will explain in another post. I have a 3:00 appointment scheduled which also does not show up. I headed back to deal with Elijah then took off to take care of some personal business. I get back to headquarters at 5:30 and a prostitute named Jessica comes in for a drink and short conversation. She leaves and a prostitute named Heidi comes in for the same.
They leave and a prostitute I will call "Q" comes in. She had never came in before and in the several years I have known her we have only had very short conversations. Usually she would not even walk on the same side of the street because she wanted nothing to do with Jesus! I knew that she was young and I wanted to know at what age she started prostituting on the streets. When I asked her she answered "15"! I immediately though of my thirteen year old granddaughter and thought "only two years older than her and walking the streets as a prostitute"??? Tears streamed down her face as she said "I need help and I have no one". I handed her tissues and she continued to weep and tell me her story. She is heroin addicted and is put down by all her family including her mother. This poor child has never had a chance to even try to get her life right! I was broken as she poured out to me. This is so awful to know that people have to live like this!!! Q was a younger version of the prostitute that was murdered a couple weeks ago. Q walks the streets of East Durham fearing that she is going to be the next one killed! She finally asked me to help her get into a safe place where she can get the help she needs! Praise the Lord! I meet with her again today at noon.
I am with Q until my 6:30 appointment shows up. I fixed her some dinner while the mom and addicted son waited on the couch. I had a great meeting with them that lasted around an hour and fifteen minutes. I gave them different options of rehab and my opinion on what would be best. During this time at least five different people showed up wanting to get with me. I did my best to stay focused on my appointment. I could actually stay there around the clock and stay busy! I looked at the clock and it was 7:45 then the thought came that I was to get with my wife for dinner. Shut the place down and got out the door before someone else showed up. This is an example of why it is that I struggle with getting these posts out even though I so much want to.
I had others stop by yesterday that I did not know. It was extremely busy! A grandmother messaged me at 4:30 asking me to go see her grandson in the Durham County jail. The bottom line which I praise the Lord for is that our new headquarters is touching lives for Jesus! It is absolutely amazing the things that are happening there! I do not think that we have seen anything yet compared to what the Lord is going to do down there! We sincerely thank all of you that pray for us and help us financially! Without the Lord touching your hearts to help we could not do all we do. I tell people all the time how much I love my job and that I believe I have the best life on this earth doing what I do! I am so blessed! Please pray for all these people!
