I had another awesome time of ministry today in the Durham County Jail. I started with a 16 year old that is accused of murder. He was very polite to me. I told him that if he wanted my help that I would do what I could for him. He was brought up in church but strayed. I believe that he is yet another victim of the "BM-BD Disease". That is "baby mama-baby daddy". What is happening is that in many more cases than not these kids do not have parental guidance. I witness this nearly every day! This is why you have kids as young as 12 year old doing home invasions! This is why you have 8 year old joining gangs! The grandmothers that once were the anchors of the families are not sucking on a crack pipe or shooting heroin! Someone must attempt to make a difference in these kids’ lives before they end up hurting someone or getting killed themselves. I am working with them inside and outside of the jail. For so many it is not their fault that they have not been given a chance at a decent life.
Next it was a guy who said that he is doing all the right things by teaching the Word of God and trying to direct the other inmates. He told me that he is in the jail because he is falsely accused. He kept talking about his wife then when we really started to get into what is going on in his life I found out that he wasn't really married. Like so many he has had "the fiancée" for years! We had a very good conversation but I had to show him that he has been living the life of a fornicator. He agreed with me that he needed to get his life right. I made it clear to him that if he did not repent of his lifestyle that he was on his way to hell regardless of how many he was trying to help. These people must be told the truth.
Next came a guy who I ministered to last week. When we met last week he had told me how everything was everyone’s fault and never did he claim any responsibility for his actions. He had requested to see me through a letter after coming to minister to his pod. I was very to the point with him after listening to his story. He wanted my advice so I gave it to him. I told him when he gets up in the morning that he should look in the mirror and he would see where all the fault lies. I explained to him that was he was going through was the fruit of HIS sin! Anyway, today he came in grinning from ear to ear! He had a breakthrough in his life and the Lord was really working in his life. He thanked me but I told him last week that the Holy Spirit had guided me in everything that I told him. It was the Lord speaking into his life and he is excited about the change. He is not blaming the system, the jail or anyone else but himself. I look forward to working with him much more in the future. The young man has great potential.
I went into the women’s pod next. I ministered to several prior to ministering to the mother of a Holloway prostitute who I have been ministering to for around five years. I tried to see her during the summer but she was released before I could get there. One of the other inmates went to tell her that I wanted to talk to her and I could tell that she wasn’t real keen on it but she came anyway. Her daughter has been a hardcore heroin addict. So many times I have sat with her and attempted to get her the help she needs. The daughter is currently incarcerated in another county. I was able to see many similarities in the mother and daughter. The very sad one was that they are both heavy duty drug addicts. The mom is a habitual felon drug addict at 54 years old. We had a great conversation. I talked to her about generational curses. I assured her that the Lord could take away all her mess if she would only COMPLETELY surrender to Him. She has two years of prison time to do then she wants to get with me to get into a solid Christian program to get her life turned around. I so much want to see her and her daughter happy. It is so heartbreaking to see people’s lives so destroyed. It was a blessing to see hope come to her when I said that we would help her when she gets out.
I spoke with a number of others with so many different situations going on in their lives. What the Lord had me speaking to them as I often do is complete surrender to the Lord will be the only thing that will change their lives. It is so sad that there are so many churches that are actually hurting these people by not standing on God’s Word! I am very familiar with these churches because I have worked with people that come out of them for over 7 years. There is a pattern with these people and many of them tell me the same stories. In our area we try to direct everyone to Shabach Outreach Ministries at the corner of Mangum and Corporation because we know that they preach the truth and also will spend one on one time to help people.
I was there for three hours yesterday and did not come close to seeing everyone that I needed to see. This seems to be the way it is there. I love ministering in the Durham County Jail and despite what the problem causers want to say, I strongly believe that Sheriff Andrews and his team are doing a fine job! Many people go on what they hear. I say this by experience and by spending many hours working inside of the jail. We must continue to infiltrate more JESUS!!!
