HELPING THE ELDERLY.....THIS IS A VERY STRANGE STORY!

I posted the following on my Facebook earlier in the week but since more has been added to this situation.......

These two folks are in their 90's. They have been married for over 60 years! I received a call last night that they lived close to our headquarters and were struggling very bad financially. One of his meds is over $600 a month! They were surviving on crackers! Went and met them today with a bunch of meat, groceries and other supplies. They are wearing hats that were knitted by one of Angie's friends. Very nice people! Very thankful people! This is going to be an on going situation with them. I told them to make a grocery list of all the things that they like and haven't been able to buy. They received food stamps when he was in the hospital but when he came home they reduced them to $9 then cut them all the way off! There are so many lazy, deceptive, scammers out there that get all the government handouts and these poor people can't get help??? He will be 96 Thursday! No other family? We've got them!

The beginning of this story goes back to last year when we were trying to get into the building we are now in. As many of you know we were supposed to move into the building last August but the owner changed his mind and did not rent the section we were supposed to move in or the space next door. He said that his parents were actually the owners and they had decided not to rent the space any more. I had chased this guy down for days prior trying to rent what is now our space. This guy lied to me over and over and was very deceptive in his ways.

Many probably know where this is going! After 6 months I received a call from our friend who had been renting a space. She told me that her son had purchased the building. This is when we got the go ahead to rent. The previous owner had taken a $6000 loss to keep us out. This was after I had pleaded with him to tell me why he would not let us in. He would not tell me so I told him that I was not a person that was out to sue anyone but if he rented either of the spaces to someone else I was going to take him to court for discrimination.

The previous owner was THEIR SON!!! Yes, he lives right around the corner from them and owns the house they live in which he was collecting rent and expects rent from them according to his mother! They have been so broke that they can not pay. He owns another house in the area also and works a full time job! He lied to me saying that they owned the building and were making the decisions that he was lying to us about. His mother had shared with me that they were low income laborers in the tobacco industry in Durham and had never owned anything in their lives!

We do not understand this at all! It makes no sense and we do not understand how someone can look at themselves in the mirror when treating their own parents this way. Ninety year olds!!! I was telling someone the story today and they said "now your not going to help them"? I said "absolutely not, we are going to do everything we can to help them enjoy their last years".  Just because their son (who professes to be a Christian) is not honest and is irresponsible doesn't mean that we will not follow through. I think back to the $6000 loss that he took in "following through with his parents request not to rent the building"? What could they have done with that money? What did he do with the money from the sale of the building which I was told was paid off? There wasn't enough to help his elderly parents out? That's ok, as I said we"ll take care of them.

I hope that he gets saved and repents before he has to stand before the Father! I am not going to mention his name but please pray for him and most of all for his parents. Angie took her to the store for items this past Saturday. Another friend took her for underclothes tonight. She told me that she did not wear any because she did not own any! Sad! They are without many other needed items to which she is making a list. I will pick that up tomorrow and we will continue to bless these folks. We thank those that have sent funds to help with this. If there is anyone else that would like to help you can send a check made out to Bull City Outreach to 5114 Huxey Glen Ct. Durham, NC. 27703 or you can go to our website www.bullcityoutreach.org then click on the donate button.

They can both walk around pretty good! I tend to be shy but she was easy to talk to. Dennis is hard of hearing but what an honor to just be around a World War 2 vet! When we talked he said several times "life is short". Bless yourself and them by giving them some of your attention and time :)
