The van was packed for a young struggling single mother in Durham! We were able to take her a crib that she needed for her baby, a changing table, clothes, and food.
Proverbs 19:17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD—and He will repay you!
This all started with being at a local restaurant when I met this young lady as I was leaving at the counter. She looked at the JESUS on my shirt and immediately her face showed sadness. She then went on to tell me that she loved JESUS and that she had lost everything. She said that all she had left was her baby. I then asked her what her greatest need was. She said that she needed a mattress for her baby to sleep on. Within 2 days I went to the doctor and one of the girls had all this baby stuff that she wanted to give us! That is how the Lord works!
Philippians 4:19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
When I delivered all this I was able to talk to her more about her situation. What I have found over the years in working with Hispanic people is that the "male" seldom wants to be a "man" and marry the woman to make things right in the Lord's eyes. They want the relationship, sex and children but no commitment! I know that this happens in all races but I was very surprised how often it is the case with Hispanics. I was also surprised at how many of these "males" will beat the women. She told me of her love for the Lord and the fact that she was living her life for Him. It wasn't long before she informed me that she was pregnant again. I then told her that she can not be a fornicator and expect to go to heaven!
1Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
She looked very sad as she told me "I know". This young woman really does have a great deal of potential. I continued to minister the Word to her which she gladly accepted. I then told her that "if any "males" come around wanting to be with you then tell them that there is a pastor that you want to interview them first to find out their intentions for you"!
We will continue to work with her because she is trying to get her life in order. She is open to listening to the Word of God and is in church. (Not Catholic, praise the Lord!) She is trying to work a job even though she had the one year old at home. We help those who want to help themselves!
