Last Wednesday I was sitting with Chris Hull and Paul Keyes at headquarters when a prostitute named Hope that we had worked with for at couple years showed up. She had been gone for the last nine months. This was the coldest day we have had for some time and she wore a short sleeved blouse, tights and a pair of flip flops. She was freezing and had left in a hurry with only a few clothes! I quickly found a heavy coat and gloves to give her. She then started telling what had been going on in her life and it was not good. I did not know that she had relocated with her old boyfriend. Many times the prostitutes end up missing and we have no idea what happened to them. Six we have known what happened because they were murdered. Their names are on the wall at our headquarters.
Hope told me with a big smile on her face that she was 9 months clean of the former heroin addiction. She began telling us of the abuse by her so called boyfriend. He would punch her in the face and pull her around by her hair. He had basically been holding her hostage. He destroyed her phone so that she could not communicate with anyone. He would sleep with her hair wrapped around his hand so that she would not attempt to get away. Hope has five kids and she was always so close to her youngest daughter. She does not have custody of any of them. This woman at nearly 40 years old has so much potential and is so tormented by the condition of her life. I asked her if she was ready to seek a true relationship with Jesus? She responded saying that she was as she wept. Chris, Paul and I continued talking and ministering to her. Later Jose and Javier showed up and they too had a hand in ministering and showing the love of God to her. Hope knew Javier because his brother was a former trick of Hope's. Hope is fluent in Spanish and Javier prayed and ministered to he in Spanish. Hope had also asked in Angie could come and see her which Angie did.
The temperature was on it's way to the single digits and I knew that I would need to get her somewhere to get her some warm clothes and shoes. I had been working on getting her into a rehab in Texas which she agreed that she needed to go to. Everyone left and I had her follow me to a nearby store. We purchased her sweats, thermals, and a pair of shoes. i had also been working on finding her a place to stay that night. She had spent the previous two nights in a drug infested room at The Budget Inn. It was so bad in there with the craving for heroin that she went out to her car at 4:00 a.m. in the single digit temperatures to attempt to sleep. It did not work well because she would try shutting the car off to save her gas then would be freezing in no time. Needless to say she had been able to get very little sleep in the last two nights. Kelly, who works with us was was able to get her a room at the Holiday Inn Express across town which was extremely nice of Kelly and a great place for Hope to get some rest.
I had Hope follow me to the hotel. I received a call from the rehab in Texas on the way there. All she had to do was be interviewed. The rehab which is run by good friends had waved all costs. Everything was falling into place so far. I warned Hope that Satan would be filling her mind with doubt and confusion which he sure did! I was still at the hotel and it was pushing 7:30, With the lack of sleep that she had, had we were getting no where. I advised my friend that I would talk to her then contact him the next day. I told Hope that she needed to get a good nights sleep then we would talk again in the morning. She agreed and I departed.
The next morning I attempted to contact her and the desk person advised me that she had checked out. She had the mindset that she had done so much wrong in her life that it was not worth it. She said that no man would ever want her again and she even talked about going back to "her abuser"! She said that the Lord could never forgive her for all she had done in her life. Satan was working her over! I told all the guys involved that we had planted, watered and fertilized the seed for the Lord! Many times we want it so much more that they do and that becomes hard but we must press through and not grow weary in well doing. We must always keep in mind that the enemy is trying just as hard to win her as we are in winning her to Christ! I have not heard from her at all. We will continue to pray!
