We hope that many can come and Saturday and see all the beauty of our new headquarters. We are so thankful that all that have helped to make all of this come together. Thank you to all that have labored in the last six weeks! It has been some hard work but it is so worth it when we have people coming in daily!

I have heard the comments nearly every year dealing with why we would want to make a trip all the way to New Orleans to minister on the streets during Mardi Gras. My comment is always the same...."If we can reach just one". Angie and I were sitting up late one night a few weeks ago around 11:00 when the phone rang. I wondered who was calling so late and when I looked and noticed the New Orleans area code I figured it was one of my buddies from down there. When I answered the phone all I heard was a jubilant voice on the other end praising the Lord. It was a guy named David Cooper who Felisha and I had ministered extensively to on Bourbon Street. This was truly a divine appointment with him. We were going to minister to him as he kept glancing at us then he took off running down the street only to return and this is when Felisha stopped him. Now the brother is in a rehab and is totally on fire for the Lord! He continued thanking us over and over as I talked with him. He said "thank you so much for coming to New Orleans and ministering to me, my life is changed"! Felisha talked with him also and received the same. Was it worth it for us to go to New Orleans? Ask David and I am sure he will tell you that it was! PRAISE THE LORD! Matthew 7:16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. A couple years ago I met a guy who we will refer to as W.L. in the Durham County Jail. W.L. was a member of the Folk Nation Street Gang. We really hit it off and he had such a passion for the things of the Lord and to see other men come to JESUS! I spent a great deal of time with W.L. with discipleship and helping him in life. I reached out to help his girlfriend, her kids and her mother. I was doing whatever I could do to help him because he was busy reaching others for JESUS in the jail. W.L. had a good heart but just had never had good guidance in his life. It came time for him to go to court and I told him that I would be there to speak to the judge on his behalf. I told the judge and court room that day of W.L. being a changed man and that I felt strong that he would get out and be a positive influence in a community that he had gang banged for years. I made sure to prepare him for when he got out. I told him that he could not go back to doing the things that he was doing before. W.L. was released from jail and I never heard from him. He went right back to eating from the fruit of unrighteousness. He lived a life of fornication with his girlfriend prior and went right back to the same lifestyle. W.L. was a liar not only to me but more than that to God! He had been out a couple weeks when I finally was able to make contact with him. He made up phony excuses of how he needed to get things right in his life and spend time with his family. He had been making things right while in jail but it all started to fall apart. He got his girlfriend pregnant right away. He lied to me saying that they had gotten married. They both lived a phony life in a church that accepted them living as fornicators. W.L. got mad at me when I told him that one day that he would have to give account for every word that he spoke. Matthew 12:36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. I brought up that he lied straight out to the Lord and that he would pay for it if he did not repent of the sinful life that he was living. I continued to hear the lifestyle that W.L. was living from family members and people on the streets. He not only fornicated with the mother of his child but was also fornicating with other women, he was back to carrying guns and having shoot outs with rival gang members. His life was full of sin! I tried to find him on the streets but never was able. I knew there would be a day that W.L. would end up back in jail or I would hear that he was dead. This morning while checking the jail log there he was back in the Durham County Jail. He had a federal hold so I figured I had to get there quick to talk to him. By the time I got there he had already been processed and they were shipping him out. I was very disappointed that I was not able to speak to him. Did I want to tell him "I told you so"! Yes, I sure did! More than that I wanted to speak to him and tell him that I would be there for him if he wanted to turn back to JESUS! I wanted to tell him that I love him and that JESUS would take him back if he turned away from the sinful life. I visited other inmates then when I was leaving the jail there sat his girlfriend. She told me that W.L. had been shot the end of last year and that he had lost half of one of his legs. THE FRUIT OF SIN! W.L. could have lived a good life in the Lord if he would have stuck to his word. Now he goes to federal prison crippled and leaves three kids that love him behind. I pray that he repents along with his girlfriend so they do not end up in HELL! I pray that they will turn from being lovers of sin and turn to being lovers of JESUS! I am posting this letter with the permission of Josh who sent it to me. I am actually playing catch up tonight trying to get all the exciting things that have happened lately out to everyone. If you click on the letter it should enlarge so that you can read it. Josh is someone that I have been working with for quite a while. Josh has struggled with drugs and has been in and out of jail. He was part of a weak local program which did do him some good for a short while but he started to decline even while in the program. Drugs started to show up in the mission and Josh started back to using. I knew that I had to do something or he was going to be right back where he was. I wasn't about ready to let this young man who I care deeply for fall. He had no stable family that could help him here. Only a distant aunt and his dad and step mom in Arkansas showed concern for him. He was really struggling! I made some calls, took time in prayer and then settled on placing him into the program at Servants of the Streets Ministries in Elkhart, Indiana. I wanted Josh to be somewhere where I knew the people that would be working with him. S.O.S. is a tough place where the men can not even touch a light switch in the beginning stages without asking permission. Josh needed some tough guidance. When you read the letter you will be able to see how the Lord is working in his life! I talk to him on the phone from time to time and he is really doing good! The founders of the program really like Josh and see the potential that he has. I strongly feel that one day Josh could be running a place that reaches out to the lost. It is on his heart to do this. Our prayer is that Josh will get the help that he needs then will be able to reunite with his family and be truly happy. He longs for relationships with family members who have struggled or that are struggling now. Josh is a very good kid that has had a rough life dealt to him. Praise God that he is getting that all turned around now! Please pray for Josh! Please do not send me complaints about showing the pictures of these women. The pictures come from a public website where anyone can see them. This is not the way that either one of these women looked today! Both of them said that they could not wait for me to come and see them so that they could tell me that they had given their lives to JESUS! The sad faces are gone and they are filled with joy! This one is on a massive spiritual high! She looks 10-15 years younger today that a month ago when this picture was taken. She asked question after question about things of the Lord! She told me how she was not able to even walk Holloway on the headquarters side prior to getting locked up because of feeling conviction in her heart. She told me of how she knows now of how the Lord was working through me to reach her. They have both talked about how when they get they want me to find a good Christian rehab for them. This of course is early in the game and they both have a rough road ahead of them. The younger one's mother called me this evening thanking me for helping her daughter. I ministered to 10 others while at the jail today. It is such a blessing to see lives transformed for JESUS! Please pray for these women and around 500 others that are in the Durham County Jail. DON'T FORGET - OPEN HOUSE/COMMUNITY OUTREACH THIS SATURDAY 12-5! People have been asking me what we need for this coming Saturday and how they can assist in the operation of our headquarters. We still need monthly financial partners. We will be accepting donations. We are believing that we will be able to keep the rent paid in advance! We go through cases and cases of water throughout the spring and summer. Candy or sweets are something craved by the drug addict. Especially in the morning when they are craving another fix the sweets will be what they look for to curb the craving. This of course opens a door to be able to minister the Gospel to them. The candy is also good to have around for the kids of course! A very popular candy that is requested by many is laffy taffy. All of these are things that we have been going through since we got into the building. We appreciate any help that you can provide in this area and we greatly appreciate your prayers and financial contributions! Come out and see our beautiful headquarters! We hope to see you on Saturday! We are getting close to having everything we need for our new Headquarters. We are wanting to purchase 5 tables which are $50 each and 6 chairs per table which are $20 each. After this our only other need will be a security system. This Saturday we will be installing a new floor. The landlord is buying the floor and we are installing it. We will soon be totally in full operation and that is so exciting! So many lives already are being touched for Jesus! The tables and chairs will be used when we are feeding people. The chairs will be used when we have our Christian movie night and also for when we do discipleship training and other things. We do not want to deal with having to go to the bus to get the metal folding chairs. Eventually we want to phase them out completely. The same goes for having to go to get tables every time we need them. We want to keep the equipment separate. If you would like to donate toward this you can send a tax deductible check made out to Bull City Outreach or (BCOM) to 5114 Huxey Glen Ct. Durham, NC 27703 or you can go to our website www.bullcityoutreach.org then click on the donate button to use PayPal. Please let us know how many tables or chairs then we will keep everyone posted on the progress. We hope to have them before the Open House on Saturday the 26th from noon till five. We have been so busy still trying to get everything set up. I look forward to when I have the office section done so I can get this work done down there. We continue to have people walking in every day! There is a prostitute that stops in everyday still! Now we are starting to get the neighborhood kids which is awesome! Here are a few examples of the awesome ministry going on. Today I had a guy named Tim who came in that Dean Padgett and I had just ministered to in the Durham County Jail this past Tuesday night. He was really down and out to spend close to three months in jail then get out to find that he had no where to live and his family was gone. He said "I am not going to make God any promises but I am going to try this thing". I explained to him that God was not wanting to play let's make a deal with him and that He gave us a free will to do and live anyway that we wanted. The conversation got much better from there and he is supposed to be at church this Sunday. I had a young teenager stop by with three older teens today. He was carrying a book that I gave him yesterday. I told him yesterday that he would need to have a verse memorized to get a free soda or candy next tine. He showed up all proud saying that he had his verse. I told him if you get it right I will give your friends one too. They were all putting pressure on him to get it right. He did it then I sat all four down on the couch and ministered to them about the funeral of a 22 year old gang member I attended today. The other three need a scripture next time and the other boy needs a new verse. I have been ministering to a prostitute named "Tia" for the last four years or so. She has become a regular on our corner. She has also become very defiant in her supposed atheist belief. She has been one that has stopped in several times a day getting drinks and snacks for her and "her boyfriend" who parks out back. He does crossword puzzles while she prostitutes. She came in the other day while Jamie Locklear and I was talking and started saying that she believes more in martians than she does Jesus. She has also had a foul mouth. She told how she believes in evolution. We talked to her some but after she left I could not get the conversation out of my mind. I was also thinking that I had, had about enough of her thinking she could bring her little devilish self in and do whatever she wished. She came in later and I stopped her and told her that this place was for people that were seeking to change their lives and that even though she did not believe the way I believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to people changing that this was not a place for her. She said "do you mean that I am not going to be able to get sodas and candy". I said "that is exactly what I mean". Defiantly she walked over to the refrigerator and grabbed another soda. She came back the next day and I stopped her at the door. I said "I hope one day things will change for you but as I told you yesterday this place is not for you at this time". She said "you mean I can't get nothing". Can't I get just a soda? I said "you believe in martians, go find yourself a martian and ask him for a soda. This place is for people that are seeking Jesus Christ to change their lives. You are openly against that and she agreed. She is out unless she has a change of mind. This girl also plays a part in a senior citizen prescription pills scam. Seniors are selling their pills to drug dealers. The picture to the left shows what many of us in the past would see as a nice old grandma. Now many have turned into drug dealers assisting in ruining peoples lives! This is just one of the popular pills on the streets. The dealer will buy the seniors scripts then sell the pills for $5 or more a pill on the streets. There are also doctors that are in on this scam. This girl laughed at this and that is another reason she is not welcome for now. I pray that she gets caught and the seniors get caught that are doing this. The end of an awesome day of ministry came with a visit by one of my regular little guys! This was the one that put a lump in my throat. Trey who is probably around 10-12 stopped by just as I was locking up. I asked him if he wanted a soda before I locked up. He said "no, I will get my soda at the store but I want to give you a dollar for helping the community". I told him to keep his money then I unlocked and told him to grab a soda. He was in a chatting mood and I finally had to tell him that I had to go. He is such a neat kid and it is awesome that he keeps a good attitude living where he lives. I told him that I want to meet his mom.
I know that the Lord has big plans for changing lives in our new headquarters! It is so awesome to be able to minister out of there. It is like instead of trolling around in the van looking for fish, now they jump in the boat! |
